First quarter sales increase at Pets at Home

Retail consumer revenue at Pets at Home was up by 4.9% in the first quarter of the financial year, according to its latest trading statement.

For the 16-week period to 16 July 2026, retail consumer revenue rose 4.9% to £399m. During the quarter, the business won market share, with volumes growing ahead of sales, and momentum being underpinned by initiatives within its Retail Turnaround Plan, the company maintained.

The turnaround plan includes category resets on dog food, cat food and treats, alongside an investment programme to refresh the store estate. Retail customer satisfaction has increased year-on-year, said the retailer, with strong improvements in value for money, product availability and ease of instore order collection.

During the same period, Vet Group consumer revenue was up 1.9% to £215m with total group consumer revenue up 3.9% to £614m. Guidance for the full year was maintained at the same level as previously stated.

Chief executive James Bailey said: “We have made an encouraging start to FY27, trading in line with expectations and clear further signs that our Retail Turnaround Plan is gaining traction. Retail saw stronger momentum, with all categories delivering sales and volume growth, while our Vet Group continued to grow ahead of the market.

“We remain focused on delivering better value, stronger execution and more convenient pet care for customers, while building a more resilient and profitable business.”
