BOULDER, COLO. — The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC), in partnership with rePurpose Global, announced the return of Plastic Recovery July, an initiative that aims to help pet industry companies fund verified plastic recovery projects throughout the globe, while also advancing the industry’s sustainability efforts.
Plastic Recovery July will bring together pet brands, manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and retailers to help support the recovery of plastic waste. It is designed to offer companies a practical way to take action.
The PSC first introduced the initiative last year, during which 14 companies throughout the pet industry collectively funded the recovery of more than 92,000 lbs of plastic waste through projects in Kenya, India and Indonesia. In addition to removing plastic from the environment, last year’s campaign supported more than 1,070 waste workers, helped preserve coral reefs, mangrove forests and other sensitive ecosystems, and supported more than 800 women connected to local recovery systems.
“The first year of Plastic Recovery July showed what becomes possible when companies across the pet industry align around shared action,” PSC shared. “Collective investment creates measurable impact at a scale individual companies cannot achieve alone.”
This year’s Plastic Recovery July will continue to support verified recovery efforts through rePurpose Global’s Verified Plastic Recovery (VPR) framework, which tracks and verifies recovered plastic through ethical collection and end-of-life processing. Funds raised this July will support one of rePurpose’s 13 impact projects spanning six countries across South Asia, Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa.
“Plastic Recovery July proves that meaningful impact starts with taking action and amplifies when we act collectively,” said Manika Doshi, chief executive officer of rePurpose Global. “Fourteen companies came together last year and recovered 92,000 pounds of plastic. We’re proud to partner with PSC to make verified plastic recovery accessible to every company that’s ready.”
Companies interested in participating in Plastic Recovery July can join a range of participation levels, from Ally (donating $1,000) to Torchbearer (donating $10,000), by reaching out to the Pet Sustainability Coalition. Participating companies will receive communication assets and visibility opportunities.
Plastic Recovery July has the support of the World Pet Association (WPA) and early supporters of this year’s campaign include Earth Animal, Printpak, Ahlstrom, Bimini Pet Health, Cloud Star, InClover, Petcurean, Polkadog, Material Motion, Morris Packaging and Royal Canin.
